Let's Keep the Department of Peace in the Election-year Dialogue!
Jan 07, 2008

The story of an individual asking John Edwards if he supported legislation to create a U.S. Department of Peace appeared in several online newspapers over the last week, and today there is a report that John McCain was asked the same question.

While their responses were that they currently do not (maybe that will change!), what's important about the stories is that two independent DOP activists, by their persistent willingness to speak out, got the topic of a Department of Peace entered into the presidential debate.

These stories--of how one individual can make a difference--make up the crux of our work. Now, as each of us follows suit in our own individual ways, we will continue to create and ride the wave of ever-increasing public awareness of an idea whose time is coming.

Bravo for all that's been done so far. I think 2008 will be great.

My best,
