| This is one of my all time favorite poems about peace. It was written by a teenage girl who graced us with her participation at the Louisville Poets Guild Meetings at the downtown library for several years, whose name is Faye Daigler. I don't know where she is now, or what she is doing, but I hope she is well. I do know she wouldn't mind me sharing her passionate and beautiful poem. She is not only a talented writer, but also a gifted guitar player and songstress. Here is her poem. PEACE Hello How are you? I am peace. You have forgotten me -- but -- I am alive! I demand to be recognized I AM a viable option I want to dance I want to breathe clean air For too long you have tucked me away locked the door to my room, let war whisper its lies to you, whisper that I have starved, withered, am impossible, but I am alive! Embrace me! I want to be loved I am love I am laughter I am a silly child I am a wisened elder I am green grass and honey -- gold sunshine I am pink bubble gum and plaid with stripes I am every race and every religion sometimes none at all. I am everywhere and nowhere and I am not where you expect me. I am in birth and death and I am there when souls connect I am stronger and braver and more difficult than my sister violence I can walk away and I am proud enough that I am not easily slighted because I know who I am sometimes you will look for me and try and force me out of hiding People pull at me and try to put me in the wrong places And then they're angry when I go away to wait for them to welcome me sometimes an unsuspecting child will dream of me and I will live in his smile I can sneak in anywhere just let me work You haven't even tried Just get to know me I am peace And I am alive! | |||
